(May 6, 2015) Want to see how your K-12 district’s data compares to a similar district? MI School Data now offers a list of comparable districts when you use the Add Comparison Location feature.
Factors for the system generated districts are:
- Enrollment (size of student body).
- Economically Disadvantaged (percent of students eligible for free- or reduced-price lunch).
- Pupil-Teacher Ratio.
- Total Instructional Expenditures per Pupil.
Formerly, you could click the blue Add Comparison button in the Find Location settings to get a side-by-side comparison of data. You could compare your school with statewide numbers, with your ISD or district-level numbers, or any other school or district of your choosing.
Now, you click the Add Comparison Location button. You can still choose any location as you could before, but you’ll have two additional options: System-Generated Peer Districts and Peer Districts by Distance.
Choosing System-Generated Peer Districts will result in a dropdown list of comparable districts, ranked by the degree of match.
Note: The feature is only available at the district level, so be sure your original location setting is for your district (not statewide, ISD, or school level).
We’re proud to introduce this new feature, in response to requests from our education stakeholders. We hope you find it valuable as you evaluate what is working in our schools.
To learn more about how to use the feature and understand the formula for each of the factors, see the Peer Comparisons User Guide.
